How you get in
Routes in California: a 12-to-24-month automotive technology program, a dealer-sponsored academy (Toyota T-TEN, Ford ASSET, and similar pay-you-to-train pipelines), or starting as a lube tech and moving up. Expect about two years to full line-tech pay, with ASE certifications marking each rung.
